Intertwining beauty and simplicity and with a focus on exceptional quality but minimal impact on the earth, all Jill Turnbull Beauty products are multi-tasking heroes.

MEET OUR FOUNDER.

Jill Turnbull grew up in eco-conscious Australia – imbued with a sense of adventure, awe of the ocean, and grit to make her own way in the world.

Over a 45-year career as an internationally published freelance hair stylist and colorist working with some of the world’s top media outlets and performers, Jill has developed an intricate understanding of the effect products can have on people’s hair, skin and bodies.

But it wasn’t until a shoot for Vogue Italia in 2019, where she was required to ensure that every product she used was sustainable – signed by the brand, in writing – that Jill began to recognize a new mission for her professional career. Not one of the brands she’d always worked with – and assumed were sustainable – would sign off.

Armed with shea butter and determination, Jill made her way through the shoot. But after this personal brush with greenwashing, she was determined to create products that would change the beauty industry.

Jill Turnbull Beauty was born with a focus on results-driven, ocean-safe ingredients. Jill is at the helm of each product, from its formulation to its packaging to the way it is shipped, in her effort to combat the tremendous negative impact the beauty industry has on our earth and waterways.

Constantly innovating, Jill continues to work with private clients in the Baltimore area, developing and iterating on her current line of hair, skin, and makeup products.

At Jill Turnbull Beauty, we have created plant-based alternatives with plant-based, ocean-safe ingredients, multi-use products, and recycled, recyclable and reusable packaging, all to work towards a bluer future.

Founder Jill Turnbull grew up in eco-conscious Australia, where the government issues egg timers to households to limit their water usage. “Because of this experience, I made it my mission to minimize water waste through product innovation,” Turnbull tells us. For example, Jill Turnbull Beauty hair care line absorbs quickly into hair without the build-up of product, making for a faster rinse time.

We manufacture in small batches and never test on animals or work with others that do.
Our lab is FDA registered and has in-house quality control systems, in-house shelf life testing, kosher-certified materials, continued industry education, Vegan formulas, sustainable raw materials, sustainable practices, recycled and recyclable packaging, shipping, and marketing materials, Biodegradable products, women-owned and operated, our lab is powered with 100% renewable wind energy.

Blue Beauty is a sustainable beauty movement in an effort to reduce the negative impacts of chemicals and plastic on ocean life. It's about cleaning our oceans by using reef and ocean-safe ingredients, avoiding harmful chemicals to our ocean life and the environment, adopting a zero-waste packaging policy, avoiding plastic in packaging entirely, and offering refillable and reusable options.

Customers need to understand that Blue Beauty and Green Beauty are fighting for the same cause - sustainability. Both fight to reduce emissions, prevent pollution and waste, and reduce energy. This can be achieved by adopting more eco-friendly practices, using environmentally friendly ingredients, and choosing recyclable, reusable, and refillable packaging options. You can think of Blue Beauty as a subdivision of Green Beauty that focuses on our oceans, and in order to save our oceans, it starts with being more sustainable in our practices.

Blue Beauty is just as important as any other environmental cause because it’s about protecting our planet. 90M tons of plastic end up in our ocean yearly because only 9% of plastic waste is recycled. The beauty industry is a significant contributor to that, and a lot of it has to do with the excess use of plastic in packaging.

When we wash our bodies daily, our products will be washed down the drain with water. Unfortunately, water waste treatment plants do not break down all the ingredients in beauty products; some make their way to marine environments. These ingredients cannot break down in aquatic environments causing aquatic toxicity and harming marine life and the ecosystem balance.

If we continue with how we are going, we will negatively impact our planet, ultimately destroying our entire ecosystem. It’s our responsibility to protect our planet by adopting better practices that help create a safer, cleaner, and healthier place to live.
